Google honours Gustav Klimt with a doodle

Users of Google were taken aback to see the search giant?s home page on Saturday. Initially, it looked like some golden pieces and a woman?s face. Nothing great.

But a closer look reveals that it is actually a couple embracing each other and their bodies tangled in decorated robes.

For thousands of art lovers across the globe, the search engine today celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Gustav Klimt ? Austrian symbologist painter ? with an attractive non-interactive doodle.

The doodle is actually a representation of Gustav Klimt?s The Kiss (DerKuss in German). Klimt painted The Kiss between 1907-08. It is a square180cm x 180cm oil and gold leaf on canvas, painting and shows a couple embracing.

Born in 1862, the painter?s prominent works created much controversy as he brought sensuality open in public. But in the contemporary times, his works are among the most expensive ones. The subject of his works was, primarily, female body and they include art objects, paintings and murals.

Born to a gold engraver, Klimt spent most of his childhood in poverty. He was awarded a scholarship to the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts in 1876 because of his interest in art. He died in 1918 and was buried at the Hietzing Cemetery in Vienna.
