POULSBO ? First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo recently built a new orphanage, ?The Dream Home,? ?in Milan Chhok, Nepal.
The new orphanage for 20 children replaces a building that was damaged in an earthquake last year. The new building lacks clean water and needs a safe water well.
Currently, The Dream Home has a 20-foot-deep, hand-dug well that draws surface water polluted by pesticides, fertilizers, and human waste. The children need a 150-foot well that reaches the water table.
On July 21, ?Friends of the Dream Home,? a community group dedicated to the success of the orphanage, is sponsoring a Festival FUNdraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 1205 Sawdust Hill Road in Poulsbo, to raise money for a new well. A suggested donation of $15 will include lunch, catered by the Himalayan Chutney Restaurant and Thrivent Financial; and lively entertainment provided by Norwegian folkdancers and local belly dancers.
For tickets, call Naveen Chaudhary, (206) 799-1234; or visit Himalayan Chutney Restaurant, 18801 Front St., and First Lutheran Church, 18920 4th Ave., Poulsbo.
